Temple University – Fox School of Business, University & Business Honors Programs

Philadelphia, PA

  • Major: Actuarial Science
  • Graduated in May 2013
  • Dean’s List: Fall 2009, Spring 2010, Spring 2012, Fall 2012, Spring 2013
  • Honors Director’s List: Fall 2009, Spring 2010
  • GPA: 3.60

I began attending Temple University as a Freshman in Fall 2009. Temple brings together everything I was looking for in my college experience – city life, a small campus, Division I football, and a small and highly prestigious Actuarial Science program. The Fox School of Business is recognized by the Society of Actuaries as one of 23 Centers of Actuarial Excellence around the world. Included on my Activities page is more information about my non-academic involvement on campus.

University College Dublin – Quinn School of Business, Study Abroad

Belfield, Dublin, Ireland

  • Concentration: Business
  • GPA: 3.30

I originally planned to spend the Fall semester of my Junior year at Temple University Japan in Tokyo, but I changed my plans somewhat last-minute due to the earthquake and tsunami that affected nuclear power plants in the Tokyo area. Instead I spent the semester at UCD’s Quinn School of Business. In addition to taking courses in Marketing, Operations and Supply Chain Management, International Business, and Irish Culture and History alongside Irish and other International students, I had many opportunities to travel throughout Ireland and Europe. Near the beginning of the semester, I met Andy Steves, son of author and television personality Rick Steves, and learned about his tour and travel company for Study Abroad students, Weekend Student Adventures. I was able to travel to London, Amsterdam, and Prague through WSA, and had some of the best experiences of my life. Here is a promotional video for the Prague tour that was filmed during my weekend there (you can see me in my Temple hoodie on the left side at about 0:20, and again on the right side at about 0:58):

Avon High School

Avon, CT

  • Weighted GPA: 4.1688
  • Two JV letters & one Varsity letter in Softball
  • Three Scholar Athlete Awards

I attended Avon High School from 2005 to 2009. In my four years at AHS, I was enrolled in all Honors-level classes. In addition to my required classes, I studied French for two years and Latin for three years. I was a member of the 9th Grade Band during my Freshman year and the Wind Ensemble each year thereafter. During Spring Break of my Junior year, I was given the amazing opportunity of traveling to the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany with the music department; we had an exchange program with the Cato Bontjes van Beek Gymnasium in Achim, Germany. I played as a catcher and outfielder for the AHS Girl’s Softball team – on the Junior Varsity team for my Freshman and Sophomore years, and on the Varsity team for my Senior year. Unfortunately, I was unable to play during my Junior year because of an injury.

Cobb School Montessori

Simsbury, CT

I attended the Cobb School Montessori from Kindergarten through the Third Grade before transferring to the Avon Public School system. The Cobb School’s Mission and teaching philosophy of “Believe, Guide, Step Aside, Let Fly” provided me with a strong base for independent learning, which I have applied throughout my academic career. The four years I spent at the Cobb School also helped instill in me the values of respect, responsibility, independence, and integrity.
