Opportunity Knocks: Strengthen Your Personal Brand
Attending this event gave me valuable insights into the importance of building a strong and intentional personal brand. One of the most impactful parts of the session was being in a breakout room with Casey Thierry, Internal Sales Manager at Lincoln Financial. He shared his perspective on how to stand out and grow within your company, based on his experience working at Lincoln Financial since 2008. Casey emphasized that your personal brand should grow with you. He mentioned how something as simple as updating the “About” section on your LinkedIn profile can help communicate your current goals and interests. That reminder helped me realize that branding is not permanent—it should be regularly updated to reflect who you are today and what you are aiming for.
Another piece of advice that stood out was Casey’s point about the power of a phone call. He explained how one call can go a long way, yet so few people take the time to do it anymore. He shared that if a potential employee were to call him and pitch themselves, he would immediately want to interview them because of the ambition and confidence it shows. That really stuck with me and made me realize how small actions can leave a lasting impression and set you apart from others.
Overall, the session helped me understand that personal branding is an ongoing process, built not just through resumes and LinkedIn profiles, but through everyday actions, conversations, and relationships. It reinforced the idea that personal branding is about authentically telling your story—and making sure that story evolves with you as you grow.
