The Girls in Tech Conference

  1. The Girls in Tech Conference
  2. Fall 2020
  3. Girls in Tech
  4. September 9, 2020  10am PST
  5. The most interesting topic I learned was introduced to me by Candi Singleton, the VP of Diversity Partnership + External Engagement at Twitter. She went over the role that diversity plays when it comes to the future of AI. I was previously unaware of the existence of technological redlining which excludes women and minorities. If people that develop the algorithms of future machines have bias, then the machines will reflect this and also be biased. Machines are not only dependent on the programmer, but also from all the data that is given; it is important that the data we gather is also diverse.
  6. This activity relates to my career goals because it makes me realize how important my future work is as a woman in the technology industry. This webinar introduced me to a new potential career in artificial intelligence that I had not previously considered. I realize how important it is to work with companies in the future to make sure that the technology we develop is inclusive and diverse.
