Walker & Comerford Law, LLC Internship

Walker & Comerford Law, LLC is a law firm in Scranton, Pennsylvania, where I interned during the summer of 2015. The law firm has operated in both criminal and civil defense for over 20 years, and combined offers over 50 years of experience to their clients. When I first arrived, I observed the day-to-day practices of the firm– how the business operated from the inside and also what some of their typical court room appearances consisted of.

My first true assignment was to assist in the digitization of old case files. When I arrived, the process had begun and consisted of simply scanning and uploading the files to one specific computer. I suggested the implementation of DropBox technologies so that all of the case files uploaded could be easily accessible to all of the attorneys from any computer. I set up DropBox  and converted and reorganized the uploaded case files so that they could be easily retrieved by everyone within the firm.

The majority of my internship was spent building a new website prototype for the firm. I began by eliciting the information that the firm wanted to be present on the site, what features needed to be included, and so on. To build the website, I used Weebly website builder. I traveled throughout Scranton and took pictures of the major landscapes and pictures from the outside of the firm, which were used on the website. I designed the website and included the user and administrator features they sought. At the conclusion of the internship, the website design was finalized and was deferred awaiting specific content that the firm had not yet written.

This internship allowed me the real-world experience of assisting a firm in implementing new technologies and building a strong digital presence. My primary roles and responsibilities at this internship were the implementation of DropBox to store years worth of case files and the construction of a new website prototype using Weebly development tools. Many of the tasks I worked on throughout this internship were concepts that would be reinforced in MIS 3501 and 3504, which I took this past year.
