Community Service
I love to give back to the community around me whenever I can. Just a few of the community service events I have been a part of in the past year include:
My friends and I went to Temple University hospital and helped build baby boxes for new mothers who deliver at the hospital. These boxes are filled with essentials for the baby including diapers, socks, and books. The box is also meant to be used as a bed for the baby in an effort to decrease the high infant mortality rate in Philadelphia.
Temple University held a peanut butter and jelly day to break the Guinness World Record of most sandwiches made in one hour. I volunteered to help make some of these sandwiches. With the help of many other student volunteers, we broke the record with 49,100 sandwiches made. All of these sandwiches were donated to local food shelters.
I attended a walk for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in Philadelphia. The walk was called Light the Night because everybody was handed a lantern to walk around with and literally “light the night”. It was a great experience to walk around Philadelphia with a group of people holding lanterns and raising awareness for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society.
