Supply Pathways Student Trainee
From January 2024 to present day, I interned as a Supply Pathways Student Trainee at the Naval Supply Systems Command Weapons Systems Support Philadelphia office.
The Philadelphia office’s location is on 700 Robbins St, Philadelphia, PA 19111.
The Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP), part of the U.S. Department of Navy, serves the supply command for providing supplies and services to the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marines, Joint and Allied Forces. As a part of the U.S. Navy’s services, the Weapons Systems Support (WSS) Philadelphia office oversee program and supply support toward aviation material for Naval Weapons Systems. NAVSUP has a headquarters in Mechanicsburg, PA and consists of four major organizations and 11 commands that are situated around the world. NAVSUP WSS has 3 locations in Mechanicsburg, Norfolk and Philadelphia. On a daily basis, NAVSUP WSS works on 300 ships, 92 submarines, and 3,700 aircraft worldwide with an inventory worth $34 billion. Within the Philadelpia office, I specifically worked in the Operational Supply Planning division within the Fleet Outfitting, Planning and Support N-code.
For my role, I managed $400,000 of U.S. Navy retail repair supplies weekly to provide financial credit to vendors, guarantee product quality, and resolve outstanding material discrepancies using SAP and through product specialists contacts; analyzed and collected supply chain data using SAS to determine the resources needed to meet demand for U.S. Navy bases under the guidance of a Senior Operational Supply Planning Analyst; and developed techniques in transferring data to and from an enterprise resource planner and an external system using an intermediate document data structure ensuring business transaction compliance and completion
Some projects that I worked on was a weekly analysis and orders on what items that were on demand and were to be ordered for the Navy Norfolk Hazmat location using an Enterprise Resource Planner, SAS, and Excel and weekly projects on dispositions for material discrepancies either by providing financial credits or through specific instructions in packing, disposal, and reshipments.
During my time in my internship, I learned the importance of time management and teamwork with my product specialists contacts like in my Integrative Business Applications course, ways to effectively and efficiently perform an operations management analysis like in my Management Economics course, and ways to properly communicate with colleagues and in proper business setting like in my Business Communications course.
All the skills and knowledge that I learned during my time at NAVSUP WSS can be used for further career opportunities and for my time here at Temple University.
