Temple Economics Society Share Foods Warehouse Volunteer Service (10/21)
The goal of the Share Food’s Senior Food Box Program (SFBP) is to distribute food to hundreds of thousands neighbors in need each month, over 50% of whom are children and seniors or people with disabilities. On October 21st from 9 AM – 12 PM, I helped, in an assembly line, pack boxes of nutritious food for local seniors that fall below 130% of the poverty line. The result of my work with the Temple Economics Society among with the help of other groups was that we were able to pack 250 boxes that were to be delivered to seniors with food insecurities. Boxes from this program are distributed to over 7,300 seniors each month across the Philadelphia, Montgomery, and Chester counties. What I learned while volunteering at Share Foods was the importance of every small little action we take when helping out our neighbors in the community and how much food insecurity is an issue within our local area.
