Internship at Nooter Construction

From May 2016-May 2018, I worked for Nooter construction as both a full-time intern during the summer, and a part-time intern during the school year. During my time with Nooter, I have worked at both Sunoco natural gas refinery in Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania, and Phillips66’s Bayway oil refinery in Linden, New Jersey. My primary tasks at Nooter focused on data control, and accounting.

One item I was tasked with at Marcus Hook was creating and maintaining the materials intake database for the mariner east pipeline job. I created both in-depth spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel, and an extensive database in Microsoft Access to effectively track the material needed and received to complete construction. Large amounts of digital data, piping spreadsheets, and isometrics drawings were scrubbed for relevant information, entered and sorted so that they could be accessed and reported with ease.

I also worked closely with Nooter’s IT department. I often served as on on-site IT specialist, solving day-to-day computer issues on co-worker’s computers and doing routine maintenance. During the summer of 2017 I also assisted our senior IT director in the installation of a new wireless system in our offices at Bayway refinery.

While at Bayway, I served as Nooter’s primary on-site field accountant. I was responsible for timekeeping, allocation, and payroll during the FM2 cracker turnaround.

My time at Nooter taught me very much, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity they provided to learn more about the more ‘unconventional’ applications of my MIS related-skills. Heavy industry construction may not be the first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions MIS, but the applications truly are everywhere.
