Introduction to Business – Introduced many basic business concepts such as how organizations can be set up, as well as explaining the various common departments in organizations and their roles. Also developed the key characteristics of an entrepreneur and the steps to take in order to start your own business. This was furthered through a group project in which we had to develop a basic business plan laying out costs, expected revenues, and products.

Introduction to Computers – Introduced basic computer ideas such as the structure of the internet and explanation of various hardware/software components. While simultaneously gaining a strong understanding of Excel and its uses through practice projects.

Physical Geology – Learned about the formation of various geological phenomenon like various types of rock, volcanoes, and glaciers and their categorization. While also gaining a deeper understanding of characteristics that differ these categories and processes that effect or change them such as weathering (chemical or physical), lithification (consolidation of unconsolidated rock materials), and orogeny (the pressing and folding of plates to form mountains).

Speech Communication – Developed proper public speaking skills as well as techniques to prepare to communicate your ideas in a clear and concise way.

College Algebra – Covered basic Algebraic ideas including: functions, quadratic equations, and logarithms.

Sociology – Introduced many of the general ideas and perspectives associated with sociology such as those relating to race, ethnicity, difference in social standing, and gender.

Ancient & Medieval History 1 – Began with the earliest origins of the written word and the development of mathematics, then moved into the majority of prominent ancient civilizations including their ideals, significant rulers, and important events. Material covered spanned from the Gilgamesh Epic and ancient Sumerians to the rise of Augustus in Rome.

Ancient & Medieval History 2 – Resumed where Ancient History 1 left off at the beginning of the “modern” epoch (AD), continuing into the origins of modern European nations such as France, Britain, and Russia. Material covered ended at the end of the French Revolution.

English 1 (Report writing) – Went over the basic ideas of report writing covering a variety of different styled essays such as research, reaction, and persuasive.

English 2 (Literature) – Examined many popular contemporary texts and used analytical reading to identify key themes, ideas, and messages.

Temple University:

Microeconomics – Learned the basic principles of economics as well as developed a strong understanding of ideas such as supply/demand, elasticity, and trade-offs in a short-run micro environment.

Macroeconomics – Went over the major ideas relating to aggregate markets and economics. Covered topics include unemployment, inflation/deflation, and monetary policies.

Legal & Regulatory Environment of Business – Gained an extensive understanding of legal regulations relating to Business including employment, contract, torts, and property law. As well as understanding the purpose of the organizations that put these regulations into effect.

Leadership & Organization Management – Developed leadership skills and the necessary qualities to create change, motivate employees, and develop professional relationships in a business environment.

Financial Accounting – Learned the fundamental ideas of accounting for external stakeholders including preparing financial statements, financing, and the methods for accounting. Also developed skills for how to record everyday transactions and expenses.

Quantitative Methods for Business 1 – Covered the basic ideas of algebra and statistics.

Exploring the Cosmos – Learned about the various processes and phenomenon relating to the cosmos as a whole. Such as the development of galaxies, solar systems, and the life cycle of stars while also learning about the history and mechanics of instruments used for astronomical observation.

Race & Ethnicity in the Ancient Mediterranean – Examined the foundation of many ancient ideas pertaining to race, ethnicity, and how these ideas were employed as a means to further someone’s agenda. Tied these ideals into the problematic contemporary ideas surrounding race and ethnicity like rising aryan culture following events like Charlottesville.

World Music – Developed an understanding and appreciation for various styles of music across the globe such as Chinese opera, Balinese gamelan, and Japanese Etenraku.

Information Systems in Organizations – Established an understanding of the role of information in organizations as well as covering various types of systems employed to streamline processes and aid organizations such as CRM, ERP, and databases. Developed a strong understanding of how to break down processes through Swimlane diagrams and parse information from text in order to develop ERDs.

 

Current Coursework:

Data Analytics – Growing a stronger understanding of ERD construction and conversion into a database schema. While also developing skills in computer programs such as SQL for database management and building, Excel for ETL transfer to analytical datastores, and Python for analytical analysis.

Quantitative Methods for Business 2 – Learning basic ideas of calculus and business statistics while strengthening skills in algebra and executing complex functions in Excel.

Managerial Accounting – Developing a better understanding of accounting from a management perspective to serve the decision makers within an organization.

Marketing Management – Creating the skills necessary to understand marketing and product plans. While also taking a first person approach to developing our own marketing plans through the NewShoes simulation.

Intellectual Heritage 1 – Reading a variety of important texts that can be analyzed to expose the reader to different thought processes and ideas as well as developing a deeper relationship with various cultures through acceptance of those ideas.
