Operations Analyst

  1. Information about the organization (e.g., type, size, location, specific division/department in which you will be employed)
    1. Susquehanna International Group (SIG) is a global quantitative trading firm with approximately 2,000 employees across the world that trades a wide variety of products including options, ETFs, and . I will be working from the Bala Cynwyd location in Operations.
  2. Job function (e.g., overall role, assigned tasks)
    1. During my first year I will be rotating to different desks within the firm to test which one will be the best fit for me and my skill set. At each desk I will be an Operations Analyst, but my responsibilities will vary as needed depending on the team dynamics. Generally, I will be analyzing trades made by the traders on my desk and reconciling PnLs. I\’ll determine and reduce financial risk, find successful trade patterns in a given market climate, and build tools for traders or other operations analysts with the goal of automating as much as possible. I will mainly use SQL, VBA, and Python to do so. In summary, an Operations Analyst\’s purpose to increase the efficiency of the firm\’s functions on a daily basis and within the bigger picture.
  3. How the job relates to your major (describe how you will apply course work to the job or which course(s) helped you get this job).
    1. There are many classes that I\’ve taken within the MIS program that apply directly to my job. Technically, I had already had exposure to SQL from a few classes, which set me up for success when coding in my internship this past summer with SIG and will continue to do so as I transition into a full time position after graduation. Having any coding experience at all made it much easier to learn VBA and Python during my internship and I expect will as a full time employee as well. I have learned a lot about data management, problem solving, and critical thinking in my MIS classes that have served me well so far during my experience with SIG in things like understanding the market, resolving a coding challenge, or developing an efficient Excel macro that handles thousands of rows of data from SQL.
