Temple Women’s Rugby

During my freshman year, I felt that something was missing from my college experience. I had played sports my entire life, and I missed being apart of a team. But if you were to ask me three years ago what sport I’d be playing in college, I would have never guessed rugby.

My brother, who is a Temple alumni, suggested that I try out for the rugby team. He explained these group of girls seemed to get along really well, and he knew of my passion for contact sports. I couldn’t be happier with my decision to go out for the team the beginning of my sophomore year. I’m still in the process of getting into routine with all of the rules and procedures, but I have come a long way from the start. It’s really incredible to witness my own progress in such a short amount of time. I’ve made life long friends on the team, and I’ve traveled to several schools and locations for tournaments and games while meeting other players with a deep passion for this sport. One of my best decisions at Temple was deciding to play for my school’s women’s rugby team.

Upon entering Temple University, I was informed by many professors and peers to look into my school’s Student Professional Organizations (SPO) if I planned to stay in the business school. I attended the Fox School of Business’ SPO Fair, and I conversed with many students that held officers positions in these professional organizations. I found the most appealing SPO to me was Net Impact. The officers were very welcoming and friendly, but along with that, this organization had more than just a purpose of networking students and companies. Net Impact has a goal to improve the business world by strengthening members who use their power to make a positive social, environmental, and economic impact. This seemed to be the only SPO with such a positive message, and I signed up immediately.

After being a member for my freshmen year, I decided to become even more involved with Net Impact, and I applied for the Secretary position. Once I was accepted, I was thrilled to be an officer of such a positive group of students. I’ve developed leadership skills through this position, and I’ve gained a great amount of knowledge on corporate social responsibility that I plan to use in my future.
