Memorable Classes
The Destination India group
Although all of the classes I have taken throughout my college career have been extremely beneficial I have picked one class from each year that was the most fascinating and drastically improved specific skills.
During my freshman year I participated in a two week study abroad program called “Destination India”. While in Mumbai and New Delhi we went on corporate and cultural site visits and then compared our observations on the impact of culture to Indian business practices, in lectures taught by Indian professors. This was such a unique program because site seeing, although an important factor, was not the sole purpose of the trip. Seeing the amazing sights of India was fantastic but applying what we learned to the importance of cultural sites to business practices added value to the experience.
In Spain, I took a Spanish for Business class and learned more Spanish in that class than I had ever learned while studying Spanish in the US. The class forced us to analyze articles from Spanish newspapers and observe Spanish commercials and advertisements that we encountered daily. Complete immersion enabled me to absorb and learn vocabulary quicker and drawing from my environment reinforced the topics while helping me remember the material.
During my Junior year, I took a Business Communication class that taught me many practical soft skills. The in-class presentations made my public speaking skills more effective and therefore made me a more confident presenter. My writing also become more concise and my ability to compose a cohesive argument improved.
