{"id":3612,"date":"2016-10-04T12:13:54","date_gmt":"2016-10-04T16:13:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/community.mis.temple.edu\/itacs5211fall16\/?p=3612"},"modified":"2016-10-04T12:16:40","modified_gmt":"2016-10-04T16:16:40","slug":"qubes-os-a-reasonably-sevure-operating-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/community.mis.temple.edu\/itacs5211fall16\/2016\/10\/04\/qubes-os-a-reasonably-sevure-operating-system\/","title":{"rendered":"QUBES OS: A Reasonably Secure Operating System"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Weblink: \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.qubes-os.org\/\">Qubes OS<\/a><\/p>\n<p>So, the Hacker news reported that Qubes OS 3.2 has been released. \u00a0So, I have never heard of Qubes OS, so I figure I better take a peek and see. \u00a0Basically Qubes OS is an operating system that attempts to provide security through isolation.<\/p>\n<p>In essence, the Qubes OS is a virtual machine manager and applications are run within their own virtual machine. \u00a0 Qubes makes a common desktop environment that manages all of these virtual settings.<\/p>\n<p>I find this idea enticing. \u00a0 In a way, many of us do this already. \u00a0I know I do. \u00a0With the ease and availability of Virtualization, many tech savvy users work to segregate their work. \u00a0I for instance, have several different VM machines that I employ. \u00a0 I ahve a VM that I use specifically for personal email and web browsing. \u00a0This way, if I get some virus, etc, it won&#8217;t effect my work system.<\/p>\n<p>Some good info can be found on Wikipedia: \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Qubes_OS\">Click<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Who knows, maybe isolationism is the best defense for the future. \u00a0We can&#8217;t stop it, we can only hope to contain it and limit it&#8217;s impact!<\/p>\n<p>And I downloaded the ISO and plan to give this a test. \u00a0 FYI &#8211; can&#8217;t install on a virtual machine, so it&#8217;s designed for bare metal install. \u00a0 I&#8217;ll let you all know what I find when I get around to tinkering with it!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Weblink: \u00a0Qubes OS So, the Hacker news reported that Qubes OS 3.2 has been released. \u00a0So, I have never heard of Qubes OS, so I figure I better take a peek and see. \u00a0Basically Qubes OS is an operating system that attempts to provide security through isolation.
