Business Intelligence Intern
The Company
During the summer, I interned at A-G Specialty Insurance in Berwyn, PA, a national leader in the sports insurance industry. The company specializes in innovative sports and special risk accident medical insurance, with a strong commitment to insuring students and schools.
Job Function
As part of the IT Team, I developed a data visualization that simplifies the claim process for our clients, making it accessible even to those without a background in insurance. I also gained hands-on experience with Qlik Sense, a powerful data analytics platform that enables users to explore data, gain insights, and perform in-depth analysis. My role extended across various departments, where I collaborated with my team to fulfill their data needs with the use of SQL queries.
Projects
One of my key projects involved transforming an existing Excel sheet into an interactive dashboard using Qlik Sense. This dashboard allowed the executive team to automatically view updated data and insights at any time. Additionally, I collaborated with fellow interns on a group project to create a one-sheeter explaining the concept of repricing for clients, where I contributed by developing data visualizations in Qlik Sense to highlight the importance of repricing.
Conclusion
This internship was an invaluable learning opportunity that deepened my understanding of the data-driven aspects behind a business. I had the opportunity to apply concepts from my Management Information Systems classes to real-world challenges, creating practical solutions that had an impact. I am grateful for the chance to learn Qlik Sense, a powerful tool that I was previously unaware of. It allowed me to apply my skills in data visualization dashboards to a more complex level.
