In this scenario, I was the CTA of a small but rapidly growing manufacturing company. Over the past year, our organization has experienced 10 outages to its ERP system. The vast majority of these outages have been caused as a result of inadequate facilities in our existing, primitive data center. When this system is down our organization cannot process orders, cannot make products, and cannot ship products. Outages cause serious operational problems and impact both the top and bottom line of the income statement.
As a solution, I recommended that we upgrade to Tier III data centers to improve the availability from 99.67% to 99.98% saving our company millions after the initial investment.
