Black Wings Hack
Black Wings Hack is the annual hackathon hosted by the Black Wings of Rewrite the Code, an organization dedeciated to the success of women, non-binary engineers, and underrepresented groups in STEM. This hackathon will include a competition in which students can participate in teams of 3-4 as well as a series of workshops and socials to network with companies and other women and non-binary engineers and students. I plan to particpate in a team with 3 other Temple students. We will be able to re-enforce our understanding of classroom topics as we apply them to a real world problem and project as well as expand our network.
Our team used Figma, HTML, CSS, Javascript, and UX design principles to demo an app and website for a career platform called Career Cupid. The idea is that those looking for coffee chats or career advice can meet with each other skipping the anxiety that comes with cold calling. We also included features to gamify the experience and encourage engagement outside of career as well. Features included daily brain teaser puzzles, goal setting/tracking, and discussion forums.
