Assistant IT Network/PC Support Specialist
My internship at TECH Freire Charter School was a very valuable experience in working towards gaining knowledge working in IT related fields. During my time at TECH Freire Charter School I learned that its mission is to provide a college preparatory learning experience that specializes in computer science and entrepreneurship with a focus on real-world learning, critical thinking, and problem solving in an environment that emphasizes the values of community, teamwork, and nonviolence.
At my time there, I worked on a good number of things. One of the most notable being setting up network domains with the Network Administrator department for the several students that would be attending classes in September. In addition to setting up the network infrastructure for students, I had to also create both faculty and student account profiles to be available to use within the school’s domain. Another notable project I worked on was being responsible for itemizing and checking for deficiencies in several hardware workstations, printers, laptops, and smartboards across many classrooms. This activity required meticulous documentation as it was important for the IT department to know exactly how many different hardware/computers were functional versus those that were not.
Through this experience I learned a lot of what practically goes into real world IT infrastructure. Taking courses like MIS 3406, where we are assessed on building workstations to join a network domain through virtual machines prepared me in understanding pretty much most of what I was doing when I underwent setting up networks for TECH Freire Charter School. I have no doubt that this experience will be essential in future MIS career endeavors.
