Diamond Peer Teacher
During the Fall semester of 2024, I was the Diamond Peer Teacher for the MIS class Digital Systems.
This role required me to set aside hours every week for both office hours and study sessions where students could receive assistance for work related to the class. I was also present during classes, not only for the students, but also to assist Professor Sclarow, as the course had recently been reworked. We would meet each week to discuss how to teach the content going forward and to communicate observations on the students’ reception to the new course material.
Additional work done for the class included creating new Weekly Questions for the students to study from, helping the other ITAs in creating new Python challenges/coursework, and leading three classes that covered the Python content. This not only deepened my understanding of core MIS concepts, but also developed my skills on teaching others as I had to learn that people have their own base levels of knowledge and preferred learning styles. Overall, taking on this role was a new experience that allowed me to see what I could expect from future leadership roles.
