Creative Spotlight: Filmmaking

filmI am very passionate about filmmaking, whether it is creating my own films or just watching them, I can’t get enough. On this page, I have included some of my film projects that I worked on at Temple University. I have taken multiple film and photography classes in high school and as an undergraduate.

The first film class I took at Temple was called Imaginary Cities. The theme of the course was to analyze the role of cities in the films we watched, and how those urban settings have impacted the aesthetics of modern day cinema.

I also took a Race and Diversity General Education course called Race and Diversity in American Cinema where we studied how the media has depicted minorities throughout history.

Additionally, I have made multiple documentaries throughout my college career that cover topics spanning from the death penalty to genetically modified organisms (GMO’s).

Work Samples

  • Imaginary Cities Paper
    • This is a group research paper that studies the “imaginary cities” in three movies: Tron, The Matrix, and Inception. The thesis of our paper was to discuss how these imaginary cities were a metaphor for the creation of a utopian society.
  • Imaginary Cities Video Montage
    • This is a video montage my group members and I made that accompanied our presentation of “imaginary cities” using footage from the films in our analysis. We used the editing software, Final Cut Pro, to edit clips of film, add songs to the background, and include transitions and effects.
  • Film Noir Paper
    • This research paper is an analysis of the genre called Film Noir. Film Noir is a term to describe black-and-white Hollywood dramas in the 1940s inspired by German Expressionist cinematography.
  • Place Story
    • This is a “place story” which describes the idea I had for a script about the city of San Diego. The theme of the script is to show the downfall of a young girl in a city of degradation, sex, and temptation.
  • Race & Diversity Research Paper
    • This research paper is about 1990’s African American gangster cinema. In the paper I discuss three gangster films: Juice, Boyz n the Hood, and New Jack City. The thesis of my paper depicts how the severe urban setting of New York City and Los Angeles intensifies race relations, specifically among African Americans, in early 1990s gangster films.
