Technology Risk Consulting Intern
In Summer 2022, I worked at RSM US LLP in the Philadelphia Office as a Technology Risk Consulting Intern from June 13, 2022 to August 12, 2022.
RSM US LLP is an audit, tax, and consulting firm focused on the middle market in the United States and Canada. As a Technology Risk Consulting Intern at RSM, I worked with various sized businesses spanning industries such as financial institutions, manufacturing, and private equity. Throughout the internship, I earned hands-on client experience with direct access to business owners and executive management.
As an intern, I provided services to clients in order to help them identify, assess, and manage technology risk to support strategy and operations. My internship relates to my MIS because IT is a component of a management information system used to collect and transmit data. When clients adopt third-party technologies, they face a range of risks. Enhancements to technology might increase efficiency and productivity, but it may create unanticipated risks such as cybersecurity breaches. Throughout my internship, I tested IT general controls put in place by clients to reduce risk. Testing controls include physical barriers to sensitive information as well as password protection policies. The internship at RSM gave me immense experience with concepts present in MIS courses such as systems, applications, databases, and computer operations.
