My Personal Interest

bballGrowing up I have always enjoyed competing. I started playing both baseball and soccer in my early adolescent: this lead to me playing varsity soccer and baseball in high school. By the time I graduated I had achieved a lot of personal goals I set for myself while playing baseball: I  played in the senior all-star game; made all-public; won a city championship; and, most importantly, was voted team captain by my teammates.

I have always believed that competition builds great character. It lead me to learn the discipline and work ethic needed to work in business: practicing the basics every day, year after year, you gain the mindset that allows you to accomplish your task. Sports have also helped me gain the leadership and communication skills that business requires: when I was on the field there were things that I could see that my teammates might not have and vice-a-versa. So, we relied on each other to communicate what we see for betterment of the team.

Another hobby of mine is reading and writing. My mother brought me Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone when I was 8 years old, and since that moment it has been history. I’ve read books from across many different cultures and time periods. For example, I’ve read: Zora Neale Hurston, Jack Kerouac, Julie Otsuka, Richard Wright, Walt Whitman, and Charlotte Bronte. I feel that my passion for reading ties into marketing, because in marketing you have to understand people and how they think; and novels are the best insight into the human mind.
