Smart Cards, Social Engineering, and Bitcoin: Perspectives of a Hacker and Cyber-security Professional

On April 20th, I virtually attended IBIT’s webinar “Smart Cards, Social Engineering, and Bitcoin: Perspectives of a Hacker and Cyber-security Professional.” It was incredibly interesting to hear from a former hacker about how he got started and how he ended up where he is now. He spoke of his experience being raided and how that led to him working in Israel on DirecTV smart cards, as well as what being a hacker really means.

I learned that the word “hacker” is not something people want to be associated with because of its negative connotation. Mostly, I learned about the life of a cyber security professional and that there are different routes to the field. Some people study it in college and go into it after graduation, but others like Keason have a much more unconventional path.

I attended this webinar because Cyber Security is a field that interests me. After sitting in on the conversation, I am even more excited to take MIS 4596.
