Major: BBA MIS
Graduation: May 2020
- During my time with Carroll Engineering Corporation, I worked directly under the IT Manager and assisted him with various upgrades to company hardware and software. Tasks that I was assigned included: Annual PC replacement, rolling out Windows 10 to the company’s desktops and servers, and providing support to 70 employees within 2 offices.
- I assisted the IT department with multiple projects throughout the summer. Examples include upgrading physical ram on the company’s VM hardware, rolling out Windows 10 finishing 90% of the company’s machines, creating a new virtual server, and creating VMs to run certain software not compatible with windows 10. I also helped replace the company’s firewall with a Cisco ASA 5508-x with Firepower. Furthermore, I supported the IT Manager with the creation of new employees’ accounts to ensure they had everything that they needed to start on their first day.
- Through this experience, I learned about the various aspects of an IT company and how each part interconnects to make a business run on a day to day basis. I also learned important skills like replacing hardware, creating VMs to fit the company’s needs, picking the right products based on the company’s needs, and the steps taken to correctly budget on an annual basis. Everything that I did related back to courses that I took, general business and MIS specific. I was able to exercise the topics that I learned in MIS classes. In my IT Infrastructure class, I worked hands on with hardware, as well as with the creation of virtual machines, allowing me to directly apply the concepts to what I was doing in my internship.
