MIS Project – Big Data Research

Big Data

Due to the development of information technology, the word “big data” is the buzz phrase nowadays. Big data is not simple and similar a huge pile of information. The traditional computing techniques cannot manage this data set because the totality of stored data is doubling about every two years. So, it is called big data today. Many companies want to combine the utilization of big data and associate analysis approaches in order to obtain useful information for supporting the company and also the customer. The goal of a company with a big data solution is to provide data which can be interpreted as a meaningful decision. Thus, the process of big data will be stored at obtaining as much data as possible. The company wants to clean and clarify the data in order to make it as neat as possible, and it is easier to manipulate. Looking through the data for meaningful patterns in order to extract a useful model. Then, the company can model the data in order to make sense of data.

We talked about the differences between data and information on the class of data analytic. People are hard to read because data is disorganized and raw. Otherwise, the information is formatted and useful. People could understand that. Big data relate to this material we have covered in the class. Big data changes the way which collects information. More specific, there is the information architecture of an organization. The process is about collecting data from internet platform. Entering data into transaction database which stores real-time transaction data. Extracting data in the analytical data store which stores historical transactions and summary data before data analysis.

There is an example that describes how big data has been applied in practice. More and more people use wearable devices such as smartwatches or bracelets. Those devices can generate data for the individual. I have a fitness tracker from the brand of XiaoMi. The armband collects data on my sleep patterns, walking steps, and calorie consumption. It provides an insight for individual and also can analyze the collective data.
