The Association for Information System (AIS) is the student professional organization that upholds an engaging and well-developed focal point for students studying Management Information Systems, or students interested in the practice of MIS, through professional development, social events, and community activities.

I have been part of AIS since the second semester of my sophomore year. Check out the highlights of my time here below.

AIS Mentorship Program

As a MIS senior, I feel the duty to transfer my knowledge and experience to underclassmen to help them excel and truly represent the MIS department in the best light possible. I also want to give back to the organization that have helped me tremendously in my academic, professional, and social life. Therefore, I enthusiastically signed up to be a mentor in the AIS mentorship program when it was first announced.

For the duration of the program, I am paired up with two amazing mentees, Shawn Biju and Matt Chinsky. Not only do I get to know their professional and academic ambition, I also learn more about who they are as a person and how they get to where they are right now. During our meetings, I always try to keep the mood light and ensure that they feel comfortable enough to let me know their feelings and opinions on classes or professional opportunities. As a result, I believe our meetings always yield a positive experience for both me and the mentees.
The most fulfilling part about being a mentor is actually seeing your mentees use your advices and accomplish their goals. Matt recently took the next step in achieving his dream to work in the cybersecurity field by securing an internship at a multi-million-dollar security consulting firm. Shawn continues to excel in his role as the Chair of Outreach and will be the Director of Community Engagement next year. I could not be prouder of my mentees!

TD Workshop Student Leader

Another way that I have been able to give back to AIS is through the Technical Development (TD) Workshop. I had the honor of being the student leader for two workshops: Augmented Reality and Postgres SQL. In these TD workshops, MIS students are exposed to the new and emerging technologies that tech companies worldwide are trying to implement. Our goal is not for the students to become expert in these technologies after one lesson; rather, our goal is to give students a high-level overview of these technologies and spark interest for them to further look into these technologies by themselves.

Before these workshops, the Director of IT, Albert Semin, and I would look at these technologies, discover their capabilities, and develop an easy to understand lesson plan for the students to follow. For these workshops, we always show a demo of these technologies in action so students can have a visualization of the potential of these tools. As a result, students received these lessons very well and could not wait to learn more about the next technology.

Overall Experience

I would never be where I am at today without joining AIS. The organization allowed me to get to know all my professors at the Temple MIS Department and make lifelong connections with fellow MIS students. Thank you AIS for making my experience of being an MIS student at Temple wholesome.
