Opportunity Knocks : Wisdom from recent Grads on Jobs & Internships.
Opportunity Knocks was a webinar hosted and sponsored by Main Line Chamber that gave insight to students who are looking into employment as well as attempting to decide which career path they are interested in going into. It started as one big webinar room where a group of panelists in different careers and companies were asked some questions and to give insight into their lives as professionals in careers that many MIS majors may be thinking about. After that, we were split into breakout rooms to ask any specific questions about our own processes and what decisions we might be struggling to make about our careers.
After attending this webinar, I learned a lot about myself as a young student looking to become a young professional. Firstly, I realized that I do not have to be sure about the long-term aspects of my career path. Many of the panelists started off doing something specific, then pivoted when they discovered a role that fit them better, many times over, until they found what truly worked for them. This taught me that I do not have to be sure; I just need to be open to learning and experiencing new things. Also, I learned that I do not have to be the best at what I do immediately as an intern and that the point is to learn and improve my skills. This made me less afraid to just apply and put myself out there. I realized that I just have to trust myself and my abilities, and I am grateful for this webinar’s influence in that realization.
