Kreischer Miller

Business System Analyst

Technology Solutions Group

05/09/16 – 07/22/16

Background:

This career is focused on Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. The systems my team specializes in are Sage 100, Microsoft Dynamics GP, and NetSuite. We aren’t limited to these choices though as if these products aren’t a good fit for the client’s situation we can direct them to a more suitable one and stay on the project as an advisor. We also help clients with any Microsoft Office issues, especially Excel and Access, as well as provide support for Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).

The daily details of the career include programming, change management, creating documentation, project management, and translating people’s thoughts to direct choices a system can comprehend. For me, this is a career I enjoy very much. I’ve worked for other companies doing a variety of other roles, but this is the most fitting for my skills I’ve found.

Update 05/09/16 – 05/20/16

Working with technology can be so simple most times.  When it doesn’t work the frustration is endless.  I’ve experienced a few issues with system failures that have caused extensive work without an explainable solution.  I did manage to accomplish some other tasks such as a customizable shipping report and documented procedures for an ERP system’s purchasing module.

Update 05/21/16 – 06/03/16

After working in the position of an analyst/consultant for several months, I still find myself struggling with proper prioritization of tasks.  I’ve managed to become more efficient, but unless I conquer my struggles I will never be as successful as I desire to be.

Update 06/04/16 – 06/17/16

The past couple weeks have been quite productive!  I worked on several support issues, I sold an upgrade to an existing customer, and I coded a report to work with the click of a button.  I’m going to be more focused on better organization and creating better relationships with my customers.  My work creates a good relationship, but doing things like calling to check in without there being an issue will make my bond with clients stronger.

Update 06/18/16 – 07/01/16

Maintaining balance in life is difficult for me.  I have high expectations of myself that I consistently meet, but often feel like there isn’t enough hours in a day to get everything done.  Increasing support issues have raised the difficulty in balancing as to complete scheduled project work  on time I must work harder and/or longer to accomplish all of my tasks.  All this hard work will pay off in the end though, so regardless of the struggle I know the results will be worth it.

Update 07/02/16 – 07/22/16

A week’s vacation is so close and so is the end of the summer semester! I got to demo a system that I did the all the implementation work for.  The demo was a success, although there were a few hiccups.  I’ve done a much better job at managing the support issues that have continued to be a nuisance to me and I’ve developed relationships with existing firm clients I hadn’t previously interacted with.

Takeaways:

Full time work and school, while earning a 4.0 has been more difficult for me than I care to admit.  I’m doing it and achieving a high level of success, but I find myself missing details I know I should be taking care of.  This MIS3581 course I took along with working as a Business System Analyst helped me focus do to the simple, yet though provoking discussion questions and bi-weekly analysis of accomplishments, goals, and issues.  I’ve learned a lot and will continue to learn.  I am extremely pleased to have the career I have.  I want to do anything and everything possible to succeed in every way possible.  I know that means a lot of hard days and long nights, but as long as the benefits outweigh the costs I’m more then willing to grind through work!
