At the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia as an Information Services Co-op, I was assigned to help further improve the hospital’s goal of continuity in patient care through technology. The way I did this was by communicating with external providers and inputting their information into Epic, the designated software that the hospital uses for all its activities dealing with patients. In addition, I helped with the exporting of generic providers for reporting purposes and for the hospital’s 3rd party vendors. I also created and updated patients’ coverages in test environments within Epic for the goal of more accurate testing for the revenue team. My experience at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia helped me gain more insight into how patient care can be improved on a daily basis through the combination of technology and business practices.
