Work Experience

Informatics Intern

I spent my summer working on a Medicare product development tool, which is an application to track Medicare plans from end to end. This summer was the second round of development for the product, we were making necessary enhancements to better automate the process.

My role in the project varied from requirements gathering, to development, and finally quality assurance. I was involved in the requirement gathering meetings with the business, and wrote requirement documents for a tasks. I also helped with database development I wrote update statements, table compares, loops, and many other quires. Lastly I helped with quality assurance, I wrote test documents, and tested the application.

My favorite part about my internship at Aetna was the fast passed environment of the informatics team. New problems came up daily and the team had new and interesting problems faced daily. I also enjoyed the opportunity to experience a project from requirements to quality testing. This summer was a great experience to better my knowledge with healthcare, project lifecycles, and programming.

  • Scanning journal entries and signature authorizations. – Recently I worked on a project to ensure that we received an image for every journal entry General Accounting had an entry. I set up a process where we would query the daily results to cross reference the lists of entries.
