Kevin,
One thing Matulovic did well was give everyone an opportunity to present their case with supporting evidence as to why their project should be funded. He was company inclusive and very transparent which is not something you see often. Most of the time it is top executives handing down decisions for everyone to follow. A good leader stands…[Read more] -

Kumar,
The problem with reconsidering funding after having a system in place is that other executives would want the same reconsideration as well for their projects that may have went unfunded. This could cause a greater problem. It is critical to stick to a plan in place especially when it involved people of the varying segments within VWofA. I…[Read more] -

Elaine,
I think you make a great point about going back to Germany to request some funding for this project. Since the investment benefits the company globally, the effort in funding should be shared. I think the problem with VWofA was that their focus was very narrow and local. When operating as global company, I think you need to think like a…[Read more] -

VWofA made it clear from the beginning that their intention was to fund local projects, especially with a $60 million dollar budget which was much smaller than the $210 million they needed. To fund the global supply chain system, it would have ate up much of the funds that were allotted. The bulk of its value would have only been recognized on…[Read more]

Matulovic should respond to his peers with stern authority and facts. It is important that he maintains control of what projects will be funded and not steer from the plan that was created by a group of each departments peers. Keeping the project transparent and explaining how the choices were made and where each of his fellow executives projects…[Read more]

Customer Relationships:
My company’s long-term success is driven by the development and then retention of customer relationships. Being in an industry that relies mostly on sales for sporting events and concerts, it is critical that we are in tune with our customer needs. What most of our customers want is a personal relationship with someone t…[Read more] -

The company I work for currently is a division of a much larger cable and technology company. Prior to last year with the introduction of new management, laying off employees on all levels, and most importantly the incorporation of our division to adopt more corporate initiatives, we were under-investing in Information Technology. This never made…[Read more]

Thanks for your reply, Ron. Ebay, Amazon, and Etsy were companies I was thinking of when suggesting a star system. I know I am more likely to use someone who has a higher star rating, but more importantly a presence on the site. 4-5 star rating based on 50-100 plus reviewers. Feel like the longer positive history, the likelihood I will have a…[Read more]

Hello,
I sort of get the bump in rate due to weather conditions. Drivers are taking a risk with the elements, however, when it is to a point that it is astronomical, it makes me wonder how they can maintain a business. But Americans like convenience and you get that with Uber. And then factor in New York, probably the busiest cities I have ever…[Read more]

I have never used Airbnb or Uber before however, I have friends who have used Uber and have had mostly positive experiences. I have heard complaints of peak rates during busy times, which leads me to believe some customers are being taken advantage of. On the same note, Uber provides a convenience. You aren’t waiting an hour or two for a taxi t…[Read more]

Hi Stephen,
I was actually hacked twice in the last six months with the same card and I only had the card for couple months when this occurred. After the first time, I thought well this happens and didn’t think anything of it. Just the risk you take when you are not using cash. Credit card company notified me after a few days of transactions in…[Read more]

Hello,
Working in Finance, I can definitely appreciate budget constraints. But to what degree does a company compromise security for financial reasons? It seems to me that long-term it will end up costing you more should a breach occur. Target is a great example. They are currently dealing with unnecessary legal issues and now the need to…[Read more]

Hi Alexander,
I never heard of the chip security technology with credit cards prior to your post. What an interesting concept. I actually had to go look up how it worked and it appears similar to how I use my debit card with a pin requirement but with added security features through the chip. According to the article I read, we are the weakest…[Read more]

I have several credit cards and never had an issue with my information being compromised until last year, shortly after I opened a store credit that I was able to use beyond that specific store. In a six month period, it was compromised twice. At first I thought it was directly linked to the Target credit card information breach but after a…[Read more]

Hi,
I think you make a good point about saying things just to get attention but saying things with meaning. I actually just went to Yelp for the first time believe it or not tonight and was reading some of the reviews, or ranting as some of them appeared, and was marveled by the commentary. While I don’t know these people personally, I can…[Read more]

I would explain to a 5 year old that Yelp’s review process is based solely on opinions and that each person’s opinion can vary for a number of reasons. Every person’s experience isn’t the same. You could get bad service or maybe a food prepared you didn’t like one night and that could set the tone of your attitude towards your review. Then the…[Read more]

Many of us can agree that we have received spam email that prompted us to take action or face consequences. I know I am guilty of deleting these emails and paying them no mind. Since it is the hosts homes they are opening up, they should be allowed to request as much information as necessary from a perspective renter. It would be up to the renter with if and how they want to respond. If the host isn’t comfortable with the answers, or lack thereof, you can opt not to move forward with the transaction. But as a renter, I…[Read more]

LeRena,
I like the idea of feeling like your in a home when you are away from home but like you said, I would be super concerned for my safety so I’m not sure I could use a site like Airbnb. Hi Bruce,
You make a good point about losing customer base by implementing a bunch of changes. While I see most of them as necessary and would not be deterred as a customer personally, I imagine a lot of people use the site based on ease of doing business. Your post prompted me to go to their website to see what additional security measures…[Read more]
