Intro to Web Scraping: Automating Data Extraction Without Coding
I attenedd the workshop “Intro to Web Scraping: Automating Data Extraction Without Coding,” hosted by Ye Ju Ki, which introduced fundamentals of web scraping and some practical applications. During the session, I learned how web scraping can be used to effieciently colelct large amounts of data online, usually either for academic or professional use. The workshop included hands-on experience using the Google Chrome Web Scraper – Free Web Scraper extension, where we practiced extracting data from websites such as online movie databases. This event was valuable to me because I had very limited experience with web scraping as a whole, and I wanted to deepen my understanding of it. The activity helped me understand how automated data collection tools can reduce the time and effort it takes for data collection. Through this experience, I gained insight of basic fundamentals of web scraping tools and how they could improve efficiency and accuracy in any future data collection job/task that I may have.
