AIS Involvement

My Involvement in Temple’s Association for Information Systems

The Association for Information Systems (AIS) is a Professional Student Organization (SPO) at the Fox School of Business. I am fortunate to have been able to serve as the Vice President of AIS for the 2017-2018 school year. The purpose of AIS is to serve Fox MIS students through the advancement of knowledge and the promotion of excellence in the practice and study of information systems. AIS has weekly meetings with speakers that talk about various topics, such as information systems careers and technical skills. We have a variety of experienced professionals speak to the students, ranging from C-level executives to recent graduates who started their own businesses.

Coursework to Career

Coursework to Career

MIS 2501 – Enterprise IT Architecture
Enterprise IT Architecture teaches students about the modern IT architecture of a business and how to increase business value. We learn about IT architecture by building a virtual network on Microsoft Azure throughout the semester. We also learn how to research technologies to find their key features that provide business solutions. The course develops student’s ability to use technology to solve business problems, which is essential to an information systems career.
MIS 2502 – Data Analytics
Data analytics teaches students about the information architecture of an organization and how to analyze data. It gives students hands on experience managing a database with SQL queries. We were exposed to technologies and concepts such as ETL, RStudio, Excel, Data Visualization, Dimensional Data Modeling, and much more. This is valuable knowledge that is useful for any business professional.
MIS 3501 – Data-Centric Application Development
In Data-Centric Application Development, students are taught how to program. We start off learning HTML and CSS. We then learn PDO and PHP. By the end of the course, we are able to build functional web applications. This is a class that I particularly enjoyed. I learned the essential skills needed for web development.
MIS 3506 – Digital Design Studio
In Digital Design Studio, students gain knowledge about the business analyst career. We learn everything about the profession from reading the book Seven Steps to Mastering Business Analysis by Barbara Carkenord. We then apply our business analysis knowledge to a real world situation by prototyping a website for a local startup as a semester long project.
