REMINDERS: Week #11: Nov 11, 2019 MSCIS 2101 Section 4

November 10, 2019 Leave a Comment

Students,

Welcome to Week #11.

Please note the following reminders for class tomorrow evening:

1. Your Code Academy assignment is DUE by Monday, 11/11/19 11:59pm.

2. Please also remember to complete your in-class coding challenges that we did not complete in class.   There were 4 that you were to complete outside of class: GuessANumber, Profits, LandCalculations, and TotalPurchases. Please submit your assignments using the following link for the in-class coding challenges by Monday 11/11/19 11:59PM.

3. Please remember the importance of reviewing Chapter 3 in your JAVA book and review the discussion slide deck 11.1.  It is extremely important that you are able to create a simple JavaScript program that is able to manipulate numbers and strings.  If you are struggling with this assignment, remember to utilize the Virtual Assistant to assist you.

4. During this week we will focus on Functions.  Please make sure that you download (and unzip) the files for download this week.  They can be found at the bottom of the In-Class Activities Page.  Please do not forget to download them to your MS2101 folder.  I would create a subfolder called Week 11 – so that you do not confuse these files with last week’s week 10 files.  There are four starter files with instructions in the comments of the file.

5. Some coding rules to remember
  • Variables CAN NOT start with numbers.  This means the first character CAN NOT be numeric. i.e. 3lastname
  • Spaces are not allowed in variable names. i.e last name
  • Arithmetic operators are (+,-,*,/,%)
  • Prompt always returns a string
  • Remember the 3 steps to writing a program: 1)Understand the problem, 2)Develop the Algorithm, 3)Write the code
  • For more rules, please see the Chapter 1 and 2 of your JAVASCRIPT book.
