Week 4 Reminders

February 6, 2019 Leave a Comment

A few key reminders for this week:

1. Please ensure that you are prepared for lecture by reviewing each of the reading and video assignment for this week.  They can be found on the home page of our course site.

2. Your Max Pre-Lab reading is due to be completed today.  Please let me know if you have any questions about the pre-lab reading.

3. AGENDA: We will be covering Units 2.1.3 Business Rules and Decision Trees and 2.1.4 Conceptual Diagramming, basically a continuation of our discussion around analysis and designing. There are two activity sheets (pages 13-22).  PLEASE PRINT THESE AND BRING TO CLASS. I will NOT have extra copied tonight.
    • Learn IT! #1 and Learn IT! #2 Kickoff
    • Systems Analysis: Conceptual Architecture Diagrams
  • In addition, you may want to print off pages 23-24 Exam Review sheets as we will discuss them tonight as well.
4. Midterm Preparation, Exam #1.  As stated in class, Exam #1 will cover Weeks 1-4, there is a Study Guide for each exam on our course website. For Exam #1 it can be found here.  In addition, Worksheets on pages 23-24 in the packet in #3 above contains some key information that you can use to prepare for the exam.

5. Learn IT#1 is due on 2/20/19 – please ensure that you do not wait until the last minute to complete LearnIT#1.  No late assignments will be accepted and you must submit your portfolio before midnight on 2/20/19.    I have received some portfolio submissions via that link at the top of the page of the portfolio, please also make sure that you also submit a PDF or WORD doc of what is requested in the directions.  There is an OWLBOX email address where these are to be submitted, please make sure that you label the subject line accordingly when emailing your PDF/WORD submission.

6. OFFICE HOURS: While I do not have a physical office at Fox, I can be available via phone for a 30 minute conference if you have specific questions (that I have not answered already in class or where answers are not clear) or if you would like to meet in person, I have reserved time available the first 30 minutes either BEFORE or AFTER class on Wednesday nights, but it must be scheduled in advance. If more than 30 minutes is required, please reach out to me to setup additional time.   Please remember, time must be scheduled in advance.

Students,

Many of you have asked about my office hours or availability for a conference.  While I do not have an office at Fox, I am available via phone for a 30 minute conference if you have specific questions or those questions can be emailed to me directly.

If you would like to schedule time in one of these 30 minute slots, please email me for times when I am available.
Also, I generally have time available the first 30 minutes either BEFORE or AFTER class on Wednesday nights, these are limited and must be scheduled in advance, so please email me for a time that will work.

Welcome to MIS2101: Information Systems in Organizations.

We will not be using Canvas for this class.  Instead we’ll be using this site, hosted on the MIS community.  This site is built on WordPress, a world class open-source blogging tool.  As part of completing the assignments in MIS2101 you will gain some experience with WordPress and other technologies.

Unlike most intro courses, this course has no required textbook.  The traditional textbook has been replaced by a collection of readings and videos that are available over the internet.  You will also need to print out the course activity packet, which we will use throughout the course. It also includes valuable exam review material. (FAQ: is there an exam review document available to students? A: right here in the course activity packet – scroll to the bottom of the page).

On this site you will find all of the required course materials including the syllabus (found under About on the main page), links to the assigned readings, links to assigned videos, assignments and access to your grades for the course.  In addition announcements will be made in class and on this site so it is important that you check this site regularly for updates. Make it part of your daily workflow to check the site, do the readings, and stay ahead of schedule.

Welcome
