One’s digital identity is the information that can be found online about you. This can be things like your social media and profiles that you have online. This is how you can network and build a professional portfolio for yourself with information about your skills and what you want people to know about you. The purpose of creating a digital identity online is to create a reputation for yourself in the business world on a large scale and to stay connected with your network. You can also build your network by finding new people that are relevant to what you are trying to do or companies you are trying to connect with. To manage this identity, you must make a personal brand for yourself by promoting things like your skills, interests, projects you have done, previous work, etc. Cleaning up and making social media accounts can be a good place to start managing your identity.

I like how you bring up the idea of a personal brand. The emergence of social media has allowed your personal brand image to become even more important by exposing yourself to more people through the internet.
I was always taught, especially in middle school, about our digital footprint and how much it will impact us later on. I wonder what things look like currently in terms of social media and jobs. It feels as if everyone posts everything about their lives sometimes and/or don’t really give a second thought about what their digital footprint looks like. With the rise of social media, I wonder how teaching kids what a digital footprint is and how to manage it will be different, because I feel like a large majority of our generation has stuff online that isn’t considered highly professional, but I also don’t feel like it’s damaging either. Everything can be so confusing now-a-days so I don’t really know.
I like how you talk about your digital identity being directly tied to your reputation. I think its something we can all benefit from being more cautious of in todays world. I also like how you compare it to your personal brand.
