The instructor will assign you to a team randomly. You will also be assigned a website at random.<br \/>\nResearch the organization that owns the site. Include the mission of the organization, products and services, and target market. Answer the following questions:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>What are the goals of the site? What is the overall affordance of the site? Is this the right affordance<\/li>\n<li>What is the problem that the organization is trying to solve? (Does this align with the goals of the site?)<\/li>\n<li>Who are the intended users and what do you think the organization would like them to accomplish using the site? Can you create a persona of the typical user?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Deliverables<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Slide deck that showcases research and findings. Include a title slide plus the following two slides (three slides total):\n<ul>\n<li>Goals, affordance, and problem the organization is trying to solve.<\/li>\n<li>Typical users (personas).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Submit your PowerPoint slide deck to <a href=\"https:\/\/templeu.instructure.com\/courses\/105633\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">canvas<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Presentation: Students may volunteer or will be selected at random at the beginning of class to present their findings to the class.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Note: The presentations will consist of 4-minute blocks with 3-minutes for teams to present their sites, followed by 1-minute for feedback.<\/p>\n<h2>Part 2 \u2013 Usability Test &amp; Goals<\/h2>\n<p>Now that you have completed the initial research and have a better understanding of what the organization is trying to do, evaluate the user experience.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Conduct an observational usability test of your assigned site.\n<ul>\n<li>Download and adapt this\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/sensible.com\/downloads-rsme.html\">usability test script.<\/a> The script is generic, so you are required to adapt to your situation. The team should use the same adapted script for all tests.<\/li>\n<li>Get one person (user) per team member (excluding MIS (major and minor students) to participate in the usability test using the adapted usability test script. Each team member must <em>separately<\/em> conduct the test with their subject user.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Document the process and notes and include the notes as well as the modified test script as an appendix in your submission. Each team member must include a separate set of their notes in the PowerPoint Appendix.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Conduct a heuristic evaluation of your assigned site using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.interaction-design.org\/literature\/article\/heuristic-evaluation-how-to-conduct-a-heuristic-evaluation\">Nielsen and Molich\u2019s 10 User Interface Design Heuristics<\/a>:\n<ul>\n<li>Each team must work together to conduct their heuristic evaluation.<\/li>\n<li>Watch this <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Lpx-is46lKE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">video<\/a> for additional insights on how to create your team&#8217;s heuristic evaluation(s)\u00a0\n<ul>\n<li>For each heuristic criteria, write a two or three sentence rating and explanation. Use the bullet format, or create an excel spreadsheet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Summarize the results of the heuristic evaluation(s) on a slide and place a copy of the entire heuristic evaluation in the appendix.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Combine the results of the observational usability test with the heuristic evaluation.\n<ul>\n<li>Combine your user analysis with your team member&#8217;s user analysis into a new integrated list. The list should show using square brackets who is responsible for which point and where it came from. For example: \u201cThe site does not help users recover from errors [Joe] [Heuristic].\u201d It is okay to disagree with your team. If you disagree, identify those issues. As a guideline, we expect most teams will identify 7 plus or minus two issues.<\/li>\n<li><strong>List problems, not solutions<\/strong>. For example, \u201cit takes a long time to find relevant information because it is not logically organized\u201d is a problem vs. \u201cthe content should be better organized in menus\u201d which is a solution. \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Apply the following Norman\u2019s concepts to explain the problems identified above. You should use all the concepts below at least once in your PowerPoint slide deck.\n<ul>\n<li>The different types and forms of errors (Ch. 5).<\/li>\n<li>Conflict among the designer\u2019s and user\u2019s conceptual and the system image (Ch. 1)<\/li>\n<li>Gulf of execution and evaluation (Ch. 2)<\/li>\n<li>Seven stages of action (Ch. 2)<\/li>\n<li>The three levels of processing (Ch. 2)<\/li>\n<li>Blame: The wrong thing, learned helplessness, oneself<\/li>\n<li>Note: As you work through the above, you will notice that one problem fits into multiple concepts. If that is the case, then identify the more general concept and explain how the smaller concept fits into it using the results as examples.<\/li>\n<li>You will be graded on how well you can take what you learned from the usability testing above and abstract to Norman\u2019s concepts above.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Deliverables<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>\u00a0PowerPoint slide deck: Include a title slide plus <strong>presentation<\/strong> <strong>limited to 9 slides<\/strong> highlighting all of above elements (Norman &amp; Heuristics).<\/li>\n<li>Your Appendix\u00a0 must be included in the PowerPoint after the required presentation slides. <em>Note: There is no limit to the Appendix slides portion of the PowerPoint.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Submit your slide deck to <a href=\"https:\/\/community.mis.temple.edu\/mis3504sec003spring2022\/canvas-exams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">canvas<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Presentation: Students may volunteer or will be selected at random at the beginning of class to present their findings to the class.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Note: The presentations will consist of 8-minute blocks with 5-minutes for teams to present their sites, followed by 3-minutes for feedback.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Part 1 \u2013 Project Research and Problem Definition This is a team project (consisting of up to five students).
