School Spotlight: Susquehanna University

There are over 4,000 colleges and universities in the U.S. And while the media tends to focus on just a handful of schools, we at College Planner encourage students to think outside the box during their college selection process and explore a wide range of colleges. As such, we are highlighting a new college each week in our School Spotlight series. Check out the college below, along with the other posts in our series, and you may just stumble upon your dream school!

School Spotlight: Susquehanna University
Selinsgrove, PA

Many colleges feature some sort of general education requirements. But at Susquehanna University, a liberal arts college enrolling 2,200 undergraduates, students who complete the “Central Curriculum” are guaranteed to spend some time in a cultural environment that is different from their own. Thanks to the University’s Global Opportunities (dubbed GO programs), you might find yourself immersed in Mediterranean culture for a semester in Cyprus, or perhaps you’d rather spend two-and-a-half weeks studying travel writing in South Africa. Other highlights of the Central Curriculum include intensive skills-based courses focusing on writing, public speaking, and teamwork – all crucial skills for landing that first job; and a science requirement that can be fulfilled through a number of interesting courses, such as “Artificial Life,” “Environmental Hazards,” or “Physics of Music.” Students curious about pursuing a science major might be interested to learn that the University’s newest academic building is a state-of-the-art, LEED-certified Natural Sciences Center, which features a roof-top greenhouse and dozens of laboratory-style work spaces. Fun fact: 99% of students receive some kind of financial aid, and, last year alone, the University doled out $10 million in need-based grants to eligible students.
