Usually, Amazon Echo and Google Home are considered are living room devices and assist us with IoT and making our regular home as a smart home. Recently these smart living room devices found their way into the surgery room. Doctor’s have started using the voice command responsive speakers in the surgery. During the surgery doctor usually, need constant updates or patient information and breaking the sterile is a time-consuming process in a time-sensitive situation. So doctors have started asking Alexa and Google for the information about the patients while being sterile.
It also opens the realm to machine learning, with many new devices being introduced to the medical market. The decision making and research were conducted by natural language processing, which was able to extract the information of interest from an input query. Logic operations and other data processing were performed using a Python script deployed to the cloud.
The researchers are working to expand more on the smart speaker technology as it is cost effective and easy to acquire and solve a critical problem that surgeons have to go through every day.
