The owner of Huawei, Ren Zhengfei recently accused the U.S. of having political motivation for bringing about the charges against the company and his daughter who is a top executive. The charges are being brought about because allegedly the company, for years, had been trying to “steal American industrial secrets, obstruct a criminal investigation and evade economic sanctions against Iran.” The daughter, Ms. Meng, was arrested in Canada in December as a request of American officials and is waiting for am extradition decision to be made. Mr Ren explained, “I trust that the legal systems of Canada and the United States are open, just and fair, and will reach a just conclusion. We will make our judgment after all the evidence is made public.” These comments seemed to be directed at the Canadian audience whom the judge will be hearing arguments from both sides and determining if Ms. Meng should be extraditied. Personally, I think the entire situation is clearly an act to help secure a trade deal which should at the very least end with Ms. Meng being freed.
What do you think will happen to Ms. Meng? and more importantly how do you think Huawei could be affected by either decision?
