Alternately, this week you may answer one of these questions:

  • How could this happen in the world of Sox and other regulations?
  • What should the CEO do now?  Resign?  Explain

What to do this week (and all future weeks)

August 29, 2017 by Edward N Beaver Leave a Comment

I want to go over your weekly activities a second time to make sure there is no confusion.

  • Via the Schedule menu watch the video lecture (if any), read the assignments and explore the additional materials for the week.
  • Each Tuesday (am) you will find a post of ~ 4 questions about that week’s readings and other content.
  • After finishing the videos, readings and other content, write a one or two paragraph comment on at least one (1) of the posted questions.  Comment by selecting Leave a Reply option at the bottom of my post on the course blog (Leave a Comment link also works).  Replies are due by 11:59 pm Sunday.
(Note: I must approve your first reply or comment so don’t expect to see it right away. After that it will be automatic.)
  • Once everyone’s readings comments are on the blog, I expect you to read them over and comment on them.  Comments need to be posted on the class blog before 11:59 pm on Sunday.
Note: Four (4) substantive comments each week considered a B.
  • Class (Monday)
  • I may post a summary note (if any) on Tuesday

To learn to the material well you need to be actively engaged in the online discussion.  Check it out and contribute everyday.  If you have questions, put them in a post or reply online so that everyone can see the answer.  If you find yourself confused, call me and we will talk about it (609.206.9783).

Week 1: Lessons Learned

August 28, 2017 by Edward N Beaver Leave a Comment

There’s always something new about teaching each semester that we learn or I have to relearn. This post summarizes e-mail note sent to class about these issues and few others from prior classes:

  • SAP System ID‘s. Important for those participating online who could access the paper list I shared in class. An up to date copy of the list will remain on the ‘Roster / Schedule / Teams’ link on the course blog.

Remember the system we’re using is GB5. Client Number: 639

Initial password is TOwlsPAS (case sensitive). You’ll enter your own password when you logon the first time. Remember it. I can reset the password if necessary (Send me and e-mail). However if I have to reset you’ll lose a small extra credit toward your grade.

  • Class VideoAs I will do every week, the class video captured from last night is now linked on the Week 1 – page in the Schedule section of the blog.

Unfortunately, due to the technical issues we had with WebEx, the SAP exercise session was not recorded. You can watch a similar video fromWeek 1 of 2016 class sessionabout logging onto SAP. Note: the System details (e.g. client number) may be slightly different in 2017 class.

  • WebEx I had to change the WebEx meeting details to a ‘training session’ to support on-line breakout groups that we’ll start using week 2. The WebEx link was changed on the course blog. Details of the new link are below.

    To join the training session:
    1. Go tohttps://foxsbm.webex.com/foxsbm/k2/j.php?MTID=td5c7cf554ee63f17665b7886efdc9332
    2. Enter your name and email address.
    3. Enter the session password: This session does not require a password..
    4. Click “Join Now”.
    5. Follow the instructions that appear on your screen.
To view in other time zones or languages, please click the link
    https://foxsbm.webex.com/foxsbm/k2/j.php?MTID=ta69c39c25e69a0fc2d69b3c57ab0a056

  • Background conversations, noise, etc. can be very distracting with many people on-line.  Please, when you first join the class – place yourself on Mute.  Remain there except when you wish to contribute or during breakout sessions.
  • If you can’t join class via your computer (e.g. stuck in traffic, …) you can at minimum you can call into the class on your phone with this information:
Call the number below and enter the access code:  646 715 360Call-in toll-free number (US/Canada):1-855-244-8681Call-in toll number (US/Canada):1-650-479-3207Link to all global call-in numbers (View Online in WebEx)Show toll-free dialing restrictions

What You’ll Learn – How to Succeed

Attached document contains feedback from prior classes on these questions:

Why Should I Take this Course? (What Key Things will I Learn?)

What Should I do to Assure Getting a Good Grade in this Course?

Note: Items I heard more often are bolded and made larger (larger means more commonly shared).

Welcome to MIS 5121 Course

August 20, 2017 by Edward N Beaver Leave a Comment

Welcome to the MIS 5121 Course – Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems. Note this course blog is used for both the in-person class (Alter Hall 602) as well as for those participating online.

I hope you are as excited to get started as I am. In this class, you will learn the the fundamentals of ERP Systems, the business processes they enable and the controls necessary to assure they work properly.

In preparation, please see course content and requested activities in menu path: Schedule -> First Half of Semester -> Week 1: Introduction

We will begin class on Monday, August 28th. In that class we will review the structure of the course, what I am expecting from you, and introduce to some basics of the core concepts we cover in the course: Business Processes, ERP Systems and Controls. You’ll also be introduced to the SAP system we’ll use for many of the course assignments.

This class session (as we’ll do every week) will be conducted in Alter Hall classroom 602. For those online, the class room will be connected as a Webex meeting. If you join via Webex, I expect that you will join with full audio and video working.

See you either in class or on Webex Monday night the 28th.
