After last night do IP Addresses mean anything more to you than before? We knew that they were your identity on the internet, but what else do they say about you? Understanding now the vast number of network components that make up a corporate network how do you think you will be a better IT Auditor after what we covered last night?

Definitely yes! In the past, I had a similar network for my home. It had an easy instruction to follow it. However, I never make up a corporate network. I learned how to set up a network on the activities. For an IT auditor, it is a good experience to get IT knowledge. For people who did not have an IT background, it is also a good experience to get basic information from IT.

I have a better understanding of public IP addresses and private IP addresses . After this study, I know difference between local networks and wide area networs, such as office wifi and campus wifi. Also, I learned network hardware, such as Router, Switch, NIU. We also build our own network by using Router. Before the class, I have no idea how to set up network. I think this lecture help us to become a better IT auditor in our future career

In addition to the IP address representing the identity of the network, we can also use computer operations to give an IP to a router. This is how companies like Verizon and Comcast install home routers that give a router identity and let it access the network from the organization’s cables. In addition, each router has a paperclip, which is used to restart the router. We also learned Network Address Translation (NAT), which is used to hide node behind a router. When we turn off this function, we can “talk” with the router and do some commands.

IP Addresses always seemed like the ID number of a specific device that had access to the internet to me. After last class, I realized how you can use IP addresses to ping/perform a command. I thought that was pretty amazing! I think I will be a better IT Auditor knowing this information because it may be a shortcut to find certain information within a system or computer.

Everything we learned about IP addresses and the Network lab was very insightful. IP addresses identify the location of a PC to all other PCs on the internet and this allows the internet to send and receive communication through various networks and PCs. It can be seen as a large interconnected roadmap which is needed to do things like access websites and send/receive e-mails. An IP address is not only linked to a networks physical location, but can also identify the LANs and WANs any individual PC or IP address is associated with. I think understanding the makeup of large corporate networks helps us become better IT Auditors because we have to identify the risks associated with the internet access both outbound and inbound that an organization, and ultimately its data, is connected to. We as IT Auditors need to understand the LANs, WANs, and when a private network reaches the point of public access because of the inherent use of the internet. Without this understanding we won’t be able to identify the risks and vulnerabilities that may allow unauthorized access to an organization’s private network. Understanding the network makeup will also enable us to instill controls like firewalls more effectively.

The IP address connects the network communication between the device and the computer. Each device is assigned a local IP address to communicate with each other. It identifies the network interface of our host and provides the host’s location in the network. So Internet service providers can track the location and online activity of each device by IP address. As an IT auditor, we need to audit the Internet interface security risk audit. Thus IT auditors need to be familiar with the business systems and network components of Internet access to detect the vulnerabilities and risks involved.

This chapter taught us the IP addresses and the component of the network which includes Network topology, addressing and routing, for example, WANs and LANs, media access control, and network hardware. This networking lab activity makes me a deep impress about how a network work. and how and what exactly we need to set up LANs. I learned that each IP is a special identity, like a personal ID, for switch/network router to accept and recognized. LANs or WANs both need a special IP address.
This activity offers me the experience of setting up a network. And if in the future those technicals introduce these computer terms, I can understand what they’re talking about, and realize how the importance of each IP is to the computer network.

Yes, I think understanding how corporate networks are set up will help us become better auditors. I think understanding how standard the set up usually is will help us see when errors are made or when there are oversights and omissions. Also, understadning how the networks set up IP addresses is helpful for understanding how users log into different terminals on a big network.

I know the difference between LAN and WAN. LAN routing is a process that each central node maintains and uses routing tables to make routing decisions. Wide area network routing (WAN) routing is a store-and-forward method used by packet routing. At the same time, this lesson also taught me how to calculate network hardware, including NIU, Hub, Bridge, Router, Switch. In addition, the lecture will explain how to create your own network, such as an introduction to network hardware and how to set up your system. Before the class started, I didn’t even know that there were different IPs between different floors.

public IP addresses and private IP addresses. The build a small network on our own by using a Router is a great experience to learn the set up the network and IP addresses. This lecture is a basic station and definitely helps us to become professional IT auditor in the future

I thought I understand IP addresses before that night but I think I understand more now as I didn’t fully understand NAT type before and why it will impact my gaming experience in different ways. The identity can also tell what device we are using. Building a network from scratch helps me understand how it works and by knowing better about the basis of the network, I can troubleshoot better if there is a network problem that I am auditing.
