Final Grades Posted

Hi Class,

I have posted your final activity, participation, final exam and final letter grades for the semester (All points are out of 100).  In terms of the final exam the class average was 80%.  In terms of your final grades the class average was a 84%.

If you would like to review your final exam or any aspect of your grades please let me know ASAP.  Grades have been posted to both our community site and TUPortal (which will upload overnight).

It was great having you all in the class and I really hope you all found the course interesting and valuable.

Week 13 Update

Hi Class,

Last night we had our last in-person class and held a comprehensive review in preparation for the Final Exam.  I will be sending out the take-home Final Exam to you the week of 12/1 (Likely either Tuesday or Wednesday).  The final exam will be due back to me by 12/8/19 11:59 pm (Sunday Night).

Additionally, I will not be able to accept any late assignment submissions after 12/2/19 11:59 pm.

Finally, I will be calculating your participation grade over the next week, so be sure to add to the class discussions if you have not done so yet.

I will have final grades back to you by 12/14/19.

It was a pleasure having you all in the class this semester!  Please keep in touch!!

Week 12 Update

Hi Class, good work last night.  To recap: We covered Web Applications security, including coverage of the Top 10 most common vulnerabilities.

In addition, we went through and completed the Web Hacking Exercise.

We will meet again for our final in-class session on 11/21 to hold a review for the final and cover any other topics you’d like to discuss.

The Web Application Security exercise will be due on 11/21.

Week 11 Update

Hi Class,

Last night we continued our Database coverage and moved onto using MySQL Workbench, writing SQL queries, designing a database architecture and working within a db architecture.

Next week we will move onto Web Application Security.

For next week: 1) Complete Murach MySQL Chapter 4 Exercises 1-7 by 11/21  2)  Read the posted security readings

Week 10 Update (10/31)

Hi Class,

As a reminder this week will be conducted via a pre-recorded webex that I will be posting under Schedules and Materials for Week 10.

This week we will cover Application Development, which included Form Design, Variables, Conditional Logic and Loops.  The webex can be found under Week 10 in Schedules and Materials.

Next week we will continue our database coverage and will move deeper into database development which will involve writing SQL queries in MySQL Workbench.

For next week 11/7: 1) Read Murach’s MySQL Chapters 3 and 4  2) Murach 2-1 and 5-1 are due on 11/14

Week 9 Update

Hi Class,

Last night we moved onto Application Software and covered an overview of web servers and applications.  Additionally, we went through a hands-on breakthrough of IIS and Visual Studio.

Next week we will onto programming languages, specifically C#,  which is used to create applications similar to how SQL is used to work with databases.  As a reminder next week will be conducted via a pre-recorded webex that I will be posting under Schedules and Materials for Week 10.  We will meet again in Alter Hall 602 on 11/7/19.

For next week (10/31): 1) Read Murach Chapters 4 and 5 2) Complete Tech Challenge 5 and 7 and the Web Server Audit Exercise by 11/7/19

Virtual Class on 10/31/19

Hi Class,

Just a heads up: Our Week 10 class on 10/31/19 will be a virtual class held via a pre-recorded webex.

I will post the webex in Week 10 and you can view it any time you would like during the week.

You do not need to come to Alter Hall 602 during our scheduled class time: Thursday 5:30-8pm on 10/31/19.

Week 8 Update

Hi Class, last night we moved onto Database Administration and Auditing.  This included a comprehensive overview of Relational Database Architecture as well as a hands on demonstration of a MySQL installation and configuration as well as a walk-through on how MySQL operates on a Windows Server.

Next week we will move onto Application Software, including web server auditing, visual studio and C# development.

For next week: 1) The command line activity will be due on 10/24 2) Tech Challenge 6 will be due 10/31 3) Read Murach’s C#2015 Chapters 1, 2 and 3 4) Perform steps 1-8 and 11 of Tech Challenge 7 (So you have Visual Studio on your VM installed for class)

Week 7 Update

Hi Class,

Good work last night.  To recap: we covered a comprehensive review of the windows command line.

Next week: We will review any system administration/command line topics still outstanding and then move onto Database Administration.

For next week: 1) Submit Tech Challenge 2, 4 by 10/17 2) The command line activity will be due on 10/24 3) Read Murach’s MySQL Chapters 1, 2, 17, 18 and IT Audit DB posted reading

Also, for next week: please be sure to either bring your laptop with your VM or your VM’s via a USB drive to class as I would like everyone to be able to have access to their VM’s in class next week.

Week 6 Update

Hi Class,

Good work last night!  To recap: We moved onto Systems Administration and began our coverage of managing technology resources within and organization, which included domains, domain controllers, and active directory.

Next week we will be covering everything you ever wanted to know about using the command line!

For next week 1) Read the posted web link under week 7 2) Begin Tech Chall 2 and 4 (Both due 10/17) so I can answer any questions in class next week 3) Begin practicing working with the command line in windows so we can hit the ground running.
