This is a rather alarming piece that explains that county election sites lack the cybersecurity protections that they need. It’s pretty crazy that they are not up to higher standards, based off of issues with our own election and events worldwide that highlight the susceptibility of these machines.

Hi Connor,
Lacking of cybersecurity protections for election websites would be a big concern. Election should be honest and fair both for onsite vote and virtual vote. Weak protection calls the election results into question since hackers may manipulate election website easily. Government should pay attention to this situation.

I read the article and it doesn’t really give too much details in terms of what they found lacking from a cyber security perspective other than 2 main things. The fact that a lot of these sites are using .com vs .gov (which i don’t really see as a major security concern and the fact that a lot of these sites are not using SSL encryption to protect the visitors and sites. The 2nd one I definitely find as a major issue. At this point, there should be no reason why they aren’t using SSL. One reason why they aren’t using it is cause there’s a cost behind it. But that should stop them from not using SSL.
Thanks for the share!
