{"id":6397,"date":"2019-10-29T12:20:41","date_gmt":"2019-10-29T16:20:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/community.mis.temple.edu\/mis5211sec001fall2019\/?p=6397"},"modified":"2019-10-29T12:20:41","modified_gmt":"2019-10-29T16:20:41","slug":"largest-cyber-attack-in-georgias-history-linked-to-hacked-web-hosting-provider","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/community.mis.temple.edu\/mis5211sec001fall2019\/2019\/10\/29\/largest-cyber-attack-in-georgias-history-linked-to-hacked-web-hosting-provider\/","title":{"rendered":"Largest cyber-attack in Georgia&#8217;s history linked to hacked web hosting provider"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/largest-cyber-attack-in-georgias-history-linked-to-hacked-web-hosting-provider\/\"><strong>A hacker has defaced over 15,000 websites hosted on the infrastructure of Pro-Service, a Georgian web hosting provider, including government sites, local newspapers, and TV stations.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, the country of Georgia suffered a major cyber-attack.\u00a0 Over 15,000 websites were defaced with an image of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, with the text &#8220;I&#8217;ll be back&#8221; overlaid on top.\u00a0 Two television stations went off-air following the attacks.\u00a0 I did read in another article that one of the TV station&#8217;s equipment was actually destroyed by the attack.\u00a0 A third TV station was affected, but did not go off-air.\u00a0 Several newspaper sites were also brought down.\u00a0 Many linked yesterday&#8217;s attack with a similar 2008 Russian attack that defaced government sites and hacked TV and radio stations.\u00a0 Although currently there is no evidence to suggest it was Russian based, an investigation was started to identify the culprit.<\/p>\n<p>Pro-Service, a local web hosting provider, took blame for the issue.\u00a0 They admitted that a hacker breached its network and took down customer websites.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A hacker has defaced over 15,000 websites hosted on the infrastructure of Pro-Service, a Georgian web hosting provider, including government sites, local newspapers, and TV stations.
