{"id":6467,"date":"2019-11-14T08:54:57","date_gmt":"2019-11-14T13:54:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/community.mis.temple.edu\/mis5211sec001fall2019\/?p=6467"},"modified":"2019-11-14T08:54:57","modified_gmt":"2019-11-14T13:54:57","slug":"just-a-third-of-global-firms-are-pci-dss-compliant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/community.mis.temple.edu\/mis5211sec001fall2019\/2019\/11\/14\/just-a-third-of-global-firms-are-pci-dss-compliant\/","title":{"rendered":"Just a Third of Global Firms Are PCI DSS Compliant"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"gE iv gt\">\n<p>The number of global organizations fully compliant with PCI DSS regulations has fallen for the second year in a row to just under 37%, according to a new report from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.verizonwireless.com\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Verizon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The firm\u2019s annual\u00a0<em>Payment Security Report<\/em>\u00a0(PSR) has tracked compliance levels for several years. This year\u2019s was compiled from 302 PCI DSS engagements by Verizon Qualified Security Assessors (QSAs) with a range of organizations, including Fortune 500 and large multinationals firms, in over 60 countries.<\/p>\n<p>The global compliance figure fell from 53% in last year\u2019s report \u2014 a significant drop. APAC organizations appeared to be the best prepared, with 70% fully compliant. The figure fell to 48% in Europe and a disappointing 20% in the Americas.<\/p>\n<p>Rodolphe Simonetti, global managing director for security consulting at Verizon, warned that while 2010-16 saw an increase in compliance levels, the trend is now reversing.<\/p>\n<p>Featuring data from Verizon\u2019s Threat Research Advisory Center (VTRAC),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.verizon.com\/resources\/reports\/payment-security\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the report claimed<\/a>\u00a0that a compliance program without proper controls has a 95% chance of not being sustainable and is therefore a major target for attack.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany organizations spend a lot of time and money creating data protection compliance programs, but often these are ineffective \u2014 looking good on paper but not able to withstand the scrutiny of a professional security assessment,\u201d Simonetti explained.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\":vl\">\n<div class=\"btm\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div id=\":v2\" class=\"ii gt\">\n<div id=\":uu\" class=\"a3s aXjCH \">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.infosecurity-magazine.com\/news\/just-a-third-of-global-firms-are\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.infosecurity-magazine.com\/news\/just-a-third-of-global-firms-are\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1573747725176000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEiJ0bkFauVUEor4pFlZU7x_wiVKg\">https:\/\/www.infosecurity-magazine.com\/news\/just-a-third-of-global-firms-are\/<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The number of global organizations fully compliant with PCI DSS regulations has fallen for the second year in a row to just under 37%, according to a new report from\u00a0Verizon.
