{"id":6469,"date":"2019-11-14T08:58:10","date_gmt":"2019-11-14T13:58:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/community.mis.temple.edu\/mis5211sec001fall2019\/?p=6469"},"modified":"2019-11-14T08:58:10","modified_gmt":"2019-11-14T13:58:10","slug":"ai-tool-to-predict-life-expectancy-in-heart-failure-patients","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/community.mis.temple.edu\/mis5211sec001fall2019\/2019\/11\/14\/ai-tool-to-predict-life-expectancy-in-heart-failure-patients\/","title":{"rendered":"AI tool to predict life expectancy in heart failure patients"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New York, Researchers have developed an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cio.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/artificial+intelligence\">artificial intelligence<\/a>\u00a0(AI) tool to predict life expectancy in heart failure patients.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cio.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/machine+learning\">machine learning<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cio.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/algorithm\">algorithm<\/a>\u00a0based on de-identified electronic health, records data of 5,822 hospitalised or ambulatory patients with heart failure at UC San Diego Health in the US.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We wanted to develop a tool that predicted life expectancy in heart failure patients, there are apps where algorithms are finding out all kinds of things, like products you want to purchase,&#8221; said Avi Yagil, Professor at University of California.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We needed a similar tool to make medical decisions. Predicting mortality is important in patients with heart failure. Current strategies for predicting risk, however, are only modestly successful and can be subjective,&#8221; Yagil added.<\/p>\n<p>From this model, a risk score was derived that determined low and high risk of death by identifying eight readily available variables collected for the majority of patients with heart failure:Diastolic blood pressure, Creatinine,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cio.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/blood+urea+nitrogen\">Blood urea nitrogen<\/a>, White blood cell count, Platelets, Albumin and Red blood cell distribution.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/cio.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/enterprise-services-and-applications\/ai-tool-to-predict-life-expectancy-in-heart-failure-patients\/72056335<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New York, Researchers have developed an\u00a0artificial intelligence\u00a0(AI) tool to predict life expectancy in heart failure patients.
