Welcome to the online section of MIS5211! Although this class is online, over the next semester we will be interacting with each other and working on group projects.
As we prepare for the first Webex on Wednesday, I’ve set this post for each of us to introduce ourselves:
- What is your preferred name? Are you a Robert that wants to be called Bob, or vice-versa? Let us know!
- Where are you based? Tell us about your City or Town.
- What is your current experience in ethical hacking?
- What do you hope to leave this class with?
- Are you currently employed in IT or IT Security? You don’t have to divulge your employer, and may be restricted from telling outsiders, but what industry segment do you work in?
- What “fun fact” do people not know about you?
Please join in, and post a reply with a bit about yourself.
Dan Bilenker says
Hi everyone, my name is Dan Bilenker,
I am an IT administrator here at Temple University (TUCC), and a member of the US Army Signal Corps, where I trained as a Network Systems Operator. Currently I serve in a National Guard signal unit, and I am working towards a commission as an LT through the Temple ROTC program. I don’t have much experience with ethical hacking, however I do have experience with network penetration testing, data encryption, and configuring routers/switches/ASA & firewall devices. In my current position, I oversee the development and deployment of customized Windows desktop images, using the Windows Deployment Service/ Hyper-V virtual machines, and the Microsoft Deployment toolkit.
Fun fact: before I started working in IT, I got my degree in Hospitality Management from Temple U, hoping to be a chef & food truck owner.
Duy Nguyen says
Hi guys my name is Duy (Andy) Nguyen,
I am a Sr. BSA for the Philadelphia Housing Authority. I’ve been with the Authority for 10 years since graduating from Temple with my BA in MIS. I have no experience with hacking. I have minimal experiences with securing networks and systems from previous classes. I am hoping to get a better understanding of hacking techniques and how to prevent.

Hello class,
My name is Kelly Conger and I graduated from Temple this spring with a BBA in MIS. I have worked in the IT industry for >20 years, mostly with Windows servers, Server hardware (HP & Cisco UCS), some Linux and VMware since version 2.x. I recently (last month) moved over to the Security team at my current employer. I am looking to jump start my new career path with the ITACS MS program at Temple. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and learning all about Ethical Hacking.

Jonathan Reid Kerr says
Hello everyone, my name is Jonathan Kerr!
I’m a recent graduate from Temple University with a BBA in MIS. After that I hopped right over to the ITACS program this fall. I have little experience in ethical hacking and penetration testing. I hope that from this class I’ll have a better understanding of ethical hacking, the tools available, and the processes involved.
Fun Fact: I love cats, and even adopted one right off the streets of Philadelphia.
Brandan Mackowsky says
Hello all,
My name is Brandan Mackowsky and I am based out of Philadelphia. I currently work as an IT Senior Auditor for Wells Fargo after graduating from Temple with a BA in MIS/Finance. I don’t have much experience with ethical hacking but I have some experience reviewing program scripts for data output in my current and some previous roles I’ve had. I hope to leave this class with some more familiarity on the concept of ethical hacking and how it can help a business leverage the data obtained from this to further prevent future attacks by filling gaps. A fun fact about me is that I enjoy riding a sport motorcycle in my free time when the summer isn’t as humid and rainy as it’s been this year.
