Opportunity Knocks: Wisdom From Recent Grads On Jobs & Internships
I attended the Opportunity Knocks: Wisdom From Recent Grads On Jobs & Internships which was a webinar organized by Lissa Hilsee. There were many representatives and employers in attendance such as Vanguard, USLI, and Comcast. The webinar was held on Zoom from 4:30pm-6:00pm on February 13, 2025. Before those in attendance were able to meet and communicate with employers, Lisa and recent graduates who were starting their professional careers gave advice on how to do well on interviews, shared their experiences and how they were offered jobs, etc. During this segment of the webinar, I learned a lot of useful strategies like the STAR method and to simply just be your authentic self. One of the recent graduates also emphasized the importance of being prepared for your interview like arriving earlier than scheduled and practice.
After that segment was done, employers were able to join and share a little bit about what their companies do as well as when their internship and job applications open. Attendees and employers were then placed into breakout rooms where attendees would introduce themselves and then ask questions. In my breakout room, I was with Lisa and employers from Comcast, CSL Behring, and Vanguard and also several other students and recent graduates. During our time in the breakout room, we were able to ask employers more about their companies and any available opportunities they have. One piece of advice I remember is everyone’s in their own race, so take your time and don’t compare yourself to those who seem to already have had their first job offer. After splitting into breakout rooms, everyone in attendance were gathered together again to share what they discussed and learn.
Overall, this was such as vital resource and experience for me and thanks to the webinar, I was able to be gain insight on different companies, how to do well on interviews, and know more about internships and job opportunities.
