MIS and Mobile Application Development Intern

  1. Job function (e.g., overall role, assigned tasks)
    1. This was a job and summer internship through my uncle\’s friend\’s startup, which mainly deals with application and general business development for incubating companies or establishing corporations. Occasionally consulting work and technical support was also integrated.
    2. My overall role was based around application development, algorithm analysis for mobile purchase maximization, code development for both iOS and Android applications in C++ and BASIC environments, and communication with overseas mobile development partner for application functionality.
  2. Examples of projects (e.g., list the projects you worked on and what you accomplished)
    1. I worked and focused primarily on mobile applications, data organization and analysis, and in-app purchase workflows, focused around data analysis. The actual end goal of the project I was assigned to primarily focused on a subscription-based health and fitness data app.
  3. What you learned and how it relates to your major (e.g., describe what you learned from this experience in the context of specific courses)
    1. Both the programming and data analysis components of this internship directly relate to my MIS major (and the fact that it is a small team and a small consultancy/start-up is a nice bonus to my Entrepreneurship major). Although C++ and BASIC haven\’t been primarily addressed by the MIS classes I\’ve taken so far, the core coding concepts and logic remain in place, and the utilization of both SQL and Excel for data analysis and testing are heavily highlighted in many MIS classes, including intro all the way up to 3406.
    2. From a pure technical skill standpoint, learning the benefits and differences between variable establishment, array handling, loop processing, object and class differences, and so forth in regards to different programming languages is a huge boon to anyone in the technical fields and will undoubtedly assist me moving forwards, regardless of the languages involved.
    3. From a workplace perspective, insights and experience with taking initiative, communicating professionally and concisely with clientele and coworkers, and defining evaluation metrics are all critical components that were developed over the course of this internship.
  4. Once approved, the description is automatically displayed in a post on your e-portfolio.

Thanks! ☺
