Generative AI, Publishing and Copyright: Perspectives on Ethics and Law

This event was hosted and sponsored by the Academic and Research Director, Alex Wermer-Colan. I attended this event via zoom and I was able to listen and learn. During this event, we discussed how AI is affecting the publishing industry. This event had panelists who were: Jackie Rodriguez, Laura McGrath, Guy Rub, Aaron M Javiscas, and Matt Wray, who each shared their perspectives on how AI affects the publishing industry. From this event, I learned how AI impacts writers and how they can overcome and surpass the challenges it presents. I also learned that AI could have its uses, but it’s not meant to replace a human publisher. In addition, a point that stuck with me was when one of the speakers stated that it was important to know the difference between being an author and being authorized (by AI).
